Day 10: Jesus, The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11

Jesus is a good shepherd. He is not a hired hand. It's not just a job. He loves his sheep. He laid down his life for the sheep.

Who are the sheep? We are the sheep. And we definitely need a shepherd.

My father preaches about the need for sheep to have a shepherd. He said sheep aren't the smartest animals in the world. You'll never see a sheep on David Letterman doing stupid pet tricks. You won't see a sheep in the circus entertaining the crowds. Sheep are rather dumb. The one thing that sheep do well is wander.

We are the sheep of his pasture. We tend to wander and we need protection and guidance. That's what Jesus gives us as our shepherd. He is a protector and a provider. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He cares about me and leads me to what I need. He gives me rest and restoration. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He gives me guidance. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Jesus is a shepherd who cares for his flock and knows each one of us.

How has Jesus been a shepherd in your life?

I praise Jesus for being a shepherd who...
I thank him for...
